Heating

The villa is equipped with a corner, wood burning fireplace that keeps it cozy during most of the cool days of the winter. It can be supplemented with heat from the individually thermostat controlled electric wall heaters or heated only with the heaters. In sever winters, however, it will be necessary to use both the fireplace and the electric heating. We also provide a free-standing fan electric heater that can be moved around.

Keeping a house warm in Europe in the winter is expensive. The house is insulated to the standards of the 1970's when the house was built, giving coolness in summer and heat retention in winter. We also provide a table top fans in all rooms and a large floor fan in the salon for cooling in summer and, for creating a cooling air flow in summer and circulates warm air in winter as well quietly distributes the heat which rises to the high ceiling by simply aiming the fat upwards.

Hot Water

The water heater is electric and while it is not large it serves a group of four when used judiciously. Diligence must be used to husband the hot water and to remember to turn the water heater on in time for showers. The hot water heater is equipped with automatic cheap electricity use. The switch for this is in the downstairs bedroom on the wall to the right of the platform. If more hot water is needed that this supplies, it is necessary to manually override the system. This is easy. Just push the black lever down and the hot water heater will stay on until the next cheap electricity cycle is complete (11.00 p.m {23.00 hs} to 7.00 a.m. {7.00 hs} and 12.00 p.m. {12.00 hs} to 2.30 p.m. {14.30 hs}).

We replaced the hot water heater in spring 2005 so there should be plenty of hot water if the above instructions are followed.
