Utilities

Some utilities are included in the rent and others are charged extra. This depends on the type of utility and the season. Below is a breakdown:-

Electricity

Electricity 0.153 Euros per Kw. The electricity is included in the price during July and August, but other months it is extra. The electrical use will be subtracted from the security deposit when Annie's report is received by us.

Water

Water is included in the price. The water is potable and very good. It comes from wells up on the hillside above the village. It is, however, hard. It has many minerals which will settle out in the kettle and in cooking as well as crust the shower head. It is recommended to run the shower head every time you use it to prevent mineral build up. Also wipe off the shower and sink plumbing fixtures after every use. Thank you for this consideration.

Note: if the water from the taps (faucets) does not come out in a straight stream, check for mineral build up on the filter screens on the spouts.

Gas

The kitchen cook top uses ButaGaz. The bottle is found under the right hand sink. Please check to make sure it is turned on before using the cook top. When you leave the house for any length of time, please turn off the bottle. The valve is located at the top of the bottle.

When the bottle is empty, there is a spare under the built in BBQ that is part of the chimney on the terrace. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FOR THE BBQ GRILL OUT OF CONSIDERATION OF SUBSEQUENT GUESTS! This is exclusively for the kitchen appliance. In the Spring we make sure that the bottle in the kitchen is full and so is the spare.

The BBQ grill has it's own ButaGaz bottle called a "Cube". Both types of bottles can be replaced at most super markets. The closest is the InterMarché in Riez. The best prices are at the HyperU in Manosque.

Fire Wood

Fire wood is not included. It is charged by amount used based on 60 Euros per cubic metre. Kindling can be found on the hillsides but probably the best kindling are the produce baskets abandoned at the village markets. You can also buy solid paraffin fire lighters in all the super markets, hardware stores and mini-markets. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE DAMPER IN THE FIREPLACE IS OPEN (PULL ON THE CHAIN) BEFORE LIGHTING. IF THE FIRE PLACE HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR A WHILE, LIGHT A PAGE OF NEWSPAPER AND HOLD IT UP IN THE CHIMNEY TO CREATE AN UP DRAFT BEFORE LIGHTING THE FIRE.

Sewer

The house is on a municipal sewer system so none of the care and feeding of a septic system is required. It is still recommended that excessive use of toilet paper can block even the best of systems as can cooking grease and fats. PLEASE DO NOT POUR FATS AND GREASE DOWN THE DRAINS. And we request that ladies dispose of anthing other than toilet paper in plastic bags and placing in the municipal bins.

Trash and Rubbish

The renter is responsible for disposing of their waste. If waste is left, an additional charge will be subtraced from the security deposit. There are many municipal bins in and around the village and hamlet. Just up the road from the hamlet are three and there are several by the boule pitch and more opposite the halmet "place". There are more over near the Marie. We provide a trash can outside between the bush and the outside wall near the gate. You can put a trash bag into the trash can which you can tie up and dispose in the bin of your choice.
