The village of Esparron-de-Verdon exists in three parts -
1) The "old" village that dates to the 12th century. It surrounds the Château d'Esparron whose tower was built in the 12th century reportedly by the Crusaders on their way to the holy land. A small community developed at the foot of the chateau that includes houses, the church and the ancient cemetery.
2) The "new" village is 16th century and lies across the small river. Perched on the hillside overlooking the "old" village it is much bigger and consists of winding streets, the town hall, the post office, artist's studios, the bottle "Butagaz" supplier etc.
3) The newest member of the community is the hamlet of La Chapelle (Hameau de la Chapelle) where the villa is located. Built on a hill around which the small river "Sorbiou" winds on its way to the lake, the hamlet is designed like an old Provençal village with small, winding streets, golden houses with Roman tile roofs and small gardens, each a little different from the other. It also boasts a town square with shops, mini-supermarket, boulangerie, tabac that sells everything from cigarettes, swim suits, rubber boats, shoes and sun tan cream.
Le Creperie serves drinks, ice cream and some of the best crêpes in France as well as a light meal menu. Le Bistro serves hearty home cooking with favorites such as Moules Marinière, Steak Pomme Frites, Poulet au Champignons et Pâtes and a variety of omelettes. They also own the Bar where you can get anything you want and keep warm in the cold weather.
Further on at the end of the road, is the Club Nautique with it's rental canoes, pedaloes and sail boats. The tour boat that takes you around the lake is also docked there.
The police station and fire department are at the top of the hill as you enter the village as is the "boules" square shaded by trees.
